If archetypes are the building blocks of our inner selves then an awareness of them can be significant to us. Some of you will want to know more about archetypes so that you can effect changes in yourselves. It may be that you want to overcome unwanted feelings of depression or. Others will come out of curiosity – you want to know how you and other people “work”. For some it is your own journey that holds you interest for other is may be the need to understand someone you live with. They also tell us something about the way the world and the universe is ordered. Others are on a spiritual journey and have an attitude of wonder at the archetypes. As Jung pointed out the archetypes are “other” to us – they always seem as though they come from outside us and are bigger then us. A word of warning though, an understanding of archetypes does into necessarily mean that. They have us more than we have them.

They tell us why we are attracted to things. Awareness is not everything of course. Many people live happy and fulfilling lives without knowing anything about archetypes just as many people drive cars well without knowing much about how the engine works. But archetypes are the building block of our psyche they determine much about how we live our lives and understanding them can be very helpful if we want to make changes in our lives or wish to understand why we are the way we are.

An understanding of archetypes gives us a certain kind of freedom in our spiritual lives. So when we fall in love with the idea of the loving father God we can be aware what is drawing us. We can continue down that path unconsciously or we can do it consciously.
